Walmart Mexico Expands Vusion Partnership for EdgeSense Rollout - edgesense rollout
Walmart de México extends EdgeSense to Walmart Express and Supercenter stores in Mexico.

The biggest retailer in Mexico, Walmart de México y Centroamérica, is extending its partnership with Vusion, a top firm providing AI-based digital tools for brick-and-mortar businesses, to implement the EdgeSense connected store system throughout its Walmart Express locations and start updating its Supercenters. This move builds upon an existing global relationship between the two companies, which was established after Vusion successfully installed similar technologies in Walmart US locations. The partnership solidifies Vusion’s status as a key technical ally assisting Walmart in its goal to transform stores into connected hubs.

According to the deal, Walmart Express outlets will have the EdgeSense system fully installed by late 2026, making this the first large-scale introduction of the platform in Latin America. After this initial phase, Walmart Mexico intends to roll out the technology to its Supercenters, which will greatly speed up the company’s strategy for digitalizing its locations. During the first phase of implementation, Walmart Express stores will receive more than 1.7 million electronic shelf labels and over 180,000 EdgeSense smart rails, resulting in one of the most extensive connected store technology deployments in the region.

In addition, Walmart Mexico will start testing EdgeSense in its Bodega format to see if the technology can work for other store types as part of a broader, long-term strategy. EdgeSense is Vusion’s next-generation connected store platform, which integrates intelligent shelf infrastructure, computer vision, artificial intelligence, electronic shelf labels, and real-time retail data to function as a unified operating system for physical stores. This tool allows retailers to automate store workflows, boost inventory accuracy, and introduce new data-driven functions for merchandising and shopper engagement.

By using this initiative, Walmart Mexico hopes to provide a smoother and more customized customer experience, boost worker efficiency through automation and fewer manual duties, and upgrade stores with AI-ready infrastructure to support future advancements. Paul Lewellen, Walmart de México y Centroamérica’s Chief Operating Officer, stated that the EdgeSense rollout will help modernize store operations and allow staff to concentrate on serving shoppers. This project marks a vital step in enhancing operational strength while continuing to improve the shopping journey for millions of Mexican customers.

Philippe Bottine, Deputy CEO and EVP Vusion Americas, emphasized the significance of the expansion, noting that Walmart choosing to extend its work with Vusion to the Mexican market is a major milestone in their joint vision of building the connected store of the future. EdgeSense merges AI, computer vision, and real-time data to assist retailers in reaching new levels of operational excellence while providing superior experiences for both workers and buyers.
