Toshiba has expanded its mobile retail solutions with the launch of the TCx® M7, joining the existing TCx® M11 to meet rising demand for faster, more flexible in-store technology. The move reflects a broader shift among retailers toward mobile-first strategies, driven by consumer expectations for speed and personalized service.

Key Features of the TCx® M7

The new device is designed for ease of use, combining a 6.5-inch display with a lightweight, ergonomic build. It supports field-swappable batteries and quick charging, making it suitable for multi-shift operations. Payment processing is built in through NFC tap-to-pay and SoftPOS capabilities, while an integrated 2D scanner and RFID grip handle streamline inventory and checkout tasks.

Durability is a focus, with IP68-rated protection against drops and water damage, alongside an Android platform certified for secure app access. The device also includes dual cameras and a broad accessory ecosystem, allowing retailers to adapt it for both indoor and outdoor use.

Retailers adopting these solutions gain more than just hardware. The devices integrate real-time data, enabling associates to provide personalized service while reducing checkout friction.

For example, Away, the travel and lifestyle brand, has used the company’s mobile devices to transform its sales floors into flexible service hubs. According to the brand, the technology allows associates to handle payments, manage inventory, and assist customers seamlessly—all from a single device.

“Toshiba’s TCx® M7 and TCx® M11 empower our teams with the speed, mobility, and real-time personalization today’s customers expect, transforming any sales floor into a fully capable checkout and service destination,” said Mohan Itwaru, Senior Director of Direct to Consumer Technology at Away.

This shift toward mobile-first retail isn’t just about convenience. For stores with limited space or high foot traffic, handheld solutions free up counter space while maintaining efficiency.

Broader Impact on Retail Operations

The company will showcase the TCx® M7 and TCx® M11 at the NRF 2026 conference in January, where live demos will highlight their role in self-checkout, loss prevention, and AI-driven personalization.
