GreyOrange, the company behind AI-powered warehouse orchestration and store inventory software, announced that its technology now powers more than 3,800 retail locations globally. The system, known as gStore, is currently tracking approximately 200 million items across live deployments for some of the world’s largest retailers.
The gStore platform connects with sales data to identify which products sell the fastest and which items are left behind in fitting rooms. It uses sensor-agnostic technology, including overhead or handheld RFID readers, to pinpoint specific inventory items to within a 3 to 5-foot radius. This real-time data creates a “heat map” that helps store associates quickly replenish shelves and locate products for customers.
GreyOrange operates a fleet of 130,000 hardware- and software-based agents across stores and warehouses, which the company claims is the world’s largest heterogeneous fleet. The number of agents grew by 100,000 over the last two years as the company expanded its reach among fashion, specialty, and general merchandise retailers.
This level of automation changes the physical experience of shopping in ways that go beyond simple stock counts. When a customer searches for a specific size or style, the system effectively acts as an invisible assistant for the store staff, allowing them to locate items without leaving the sales floor. This reduces the time customers spend waiting and helps stores maintain a curated appearance even during peak shopping periods.

Partnership with H&M Group
H&M Group, a major user of the technology, rolled out GreyOrange’s warehouse orchestration platform GreyMatter in 2021 at one of its West Coast distribution centers. The partnership has since expanded from U.S. distribution centers to a global footprint, with GreyMatter deployed across additional North American facilities and gStore implemented in hundreds of retail locations across three continents.
In the distribution centers, GreyMatter has enhanced fulfillment performance by streamlining order processing and reducing operational costs. In the retail locations, gStore has driven operational efficiency through better inventory management and faster replenishment. H&M Group has launched the software in hundreds of locations with more to come.
“H&M Group constantly explores new technologies that improve how our customers shop and how our teams work,” said David Pino, Head of Emerging Technology at H&M. “Beyond a strong product, scaling technology across our network takes a specialized understanding of how stores, fulfillment operations and inventory flows work together to support a seamless customer experience.”
“Many of the world’s largest retailers run their core operations on GreyOrange,” said Akash Gupta, Co-founder and CEO of GreyOrange. “Their scale, operational complexity, and willingness to co-develop the future of omnichannel technology rather than simply adopt it have helped us shape how our platform performs.”
