Philips Appliances Launches 48-Hour Oxford Street TikTok Shop

Philips Appliances has launched on TikTok Shop, marking the company’s first major entry into the fast-growing social commerce platform in the UK. The launch kicked off with a 48-hour live shopping takeover at FutureStores on Oxford Street on September 3 and 4.

Oxford Street activation

The event brought together dozens of top-rated affiliate creators who showcased Philips products through hours of live content. Twelve hours of brand-hosted streams ran alongside 48 hours of affiliate live demonstrations. Shoppers at the London location and TikTok users watching from home could purchase items directly through the platform in real time.

The product lineup included the award-winning Series Stacked Dual Basket Airfryer and the OneUp innovation. Creators demonstrated how these appliances work while answering questions from viewers. The activation is described as Philips’ most ambitious live shopping event to date within the home appliances category on TikTok Shop.

The FutureStores location sits in the heart of one of Europe’s busiest retail corridors, giving the activation significant visibility among both passing shoppers and the online audience. The immersive retail media experiential space was designed to blur the lines between physical retail and digital content, allowing visitors at the venue to engage with creator content while TikTok users followed along from anywhere in the country. This format reflects a broader shift in how brands approach product demonstrations, moving away from static in-store displays toward dynamic, creator-led experiences that can reach audiences far beyond the physical location.

Each day of the pop-up featured hours of extended live programming, with creators taking viewers through detailed demonstrations of how Philips appliances handle everyday tasks in the kitchen. The interactive nature of the streams meant audiences could request specific features to be showcased or ask questions about particular use cases, creating a two-way dialogue that traditional advertising cannot replicate.

Social commerce growth in the UK

TikTok Shop has become a significant channel for live shopping in Britain. The platform hosts more than 6,000 live shopping sessions in the UK every day, according to the company. LIVE Shopping sales on TikTok Shop UK grew by 55% over the past year, spanning categories including tech, beauty, fashion and skincare.

Philips sees appliances as particularly suited to this environment. Tiago Alves, Managing Director at Versuni UK & Ireland, said social platforms are changing how consumers discover products.

“Seeing a coffee machine, air fryer or our own OneUp innovation demonstrated by a creator can bring its benefits to life in a way that a conventional product listing can’t,” Alves said in a statement. “Launching on TikTok Shop allows us to connect discovery, demonstration and commerce in a new way.”

The rapid expansion of social commerce reflects changing habits among UK shoppers, particularly younger demographics who increasingly treat platforms like TikTok as starting points for product research. Rather than visiting a brand’s website or walking into a store, these consumers first encounter products through creator content, often while browsing unrelated videos. This discovery pattern has prompted brands across sectors to establish presences where their customers already spend time, rather than expecting audiences to seek them out through traditional channels.

A complementary approach to retail

The Oxford Street event forms part of Philips’ wider strategy to connect product discovery, creator content and ecommerce. However, the company emphasized that social commerce is not meant to replace its existing retail partnerships.

“Consumers increasingly discover a product in one place, research it somewhere else and purchase through the channel that works for them,” Alves said. “If someone discovers Philips on TikTok and ultimately buys from Currys, John Lewis, Argos or Amazon, that is a successful consumer journey for us.”

He described the approach as creating incremental demand across the market rather than redirecting sales away from established retailers. The company said its retail partners remain fundamental to its UK growth strategy.
