Poundland is set to open its first new store in two years, marking a significant milestone in the company’s recovery plan.

The new store, located in Lakeside, will open on August 29, and will feature the company’s new general merchandise ranges, including items such as faux plants, food storage, and cutlery.

These new ranges are part of a top-to-bottom reinvention of Poundland’s general merchandise offer, which they have invested in deeply.

The company has also invested in deeper seasonal ranges, with Autumn and Halloween items already rolling out to stores, as part of its effort to simplify and improve its customer offer.

This effort has included simplifying its grocery ranges and restoring its iconic £1 price point to around half of its offer, a move that has been well-received by customers.

Poundland has continued to invest in new grocery ranges, including a revamp of its health and beauty aisles with new travel-size toiletries and other favorite items such as facemasks at significantly better value than other beauty retailers.

The company has also overhauled its pet aisles with a new in-house brand, Vitagen, and its household ranges, bringing in new items such as 5-in-1 Glowell laundry pods, which offer cleaning for less than 14p per wash.

At the beginning of 2026, Poundland transitioned its clothing ranges back to its PEP&CO brand, which is now designed and bought by its in-house team based in Watford.

Nearly all new adult clothing has now reverted to its former PEP&CO branding, with 90% of the new ranges below £10 and almost half below £5, making it an attractive option for customers.

Poundland’s recovery plan has been showing significant progress, with the company delivering positive EBITDA over the first nine months of its current financial year.

Like-for-like unit volume sales grew by 8.0% across its revamped FMCG ranges, with 5.0% like-for-like unit growth for the total business, indicating a strong turnaround.

Poundland managing director Barry Williams said: “Day-by-day and week-by-week we’re getting the Poundland business back on track as we turn around the business at pace.
