Emerging designer Mary Argyropoulos is gaining attention in the fashion world with her unique and chaotic designs. Her dress, featured in the Euphorizer shoot, was made with hand-cut strips of Greek wool, cotton, and denim, and showcases her ability to create pieces that are both sexy and traditional.
Argyropoulos’ work is characterized by its use of bold colors and textures, and her designs often feature long, thick fringing that creates a sense of chaos and movement. She describes her aesthetic as “sexy and taut, but traditional and almost archaic,” and says that she is inspired by the people and places around her.
Argyropoulos’ design process involves envisioning a signature scent for her aesthetic, which she describes as smelling like “extremely colourful flowers and freshly washed cotton but also smell of street urine and city pollution. And maybe a touch of onions cooking.” She also finds inspiration in the people she meets, and often asks herself what they would wear and how they would feel in her designs.

She studied fashion formally at the University of Technology in Sydney, and also worked full-time at the Iordanes Spyridon Gogos studio while studying. This experience contributed significantly to her skillset, as she “learnt an enormous amount” and was “living and breathing fashion and textiles.”
As an emerging designer, Argyropoulos is aware of the balance that artists face between creativity and commercial viability. She believes that having a strong sense of personal style and reflecting on the things she feels most confident wearing is the best way she can translate her designs into a more commercial lens.
Argyropoulos is now preparing to relocate to Paris to study her master’s at the Institut Français de la Mode, where she will have the opportunity to learn from amazing mentors and work alongside other international emerging designers.
