Co‑op members can now claim a 20 percent discount on two bottles of white wine purchased in store, a promotion that runs from 7 August to 25 August across the retailer’s England and Wales locations.

Details of the summer wine offer

The discount applies to a selection of white wines priced from £7.50 each. Shoppers must buy two bottles in a single transaction to qualify, and the deal is limited to members who present their Co‑op card at checkout. The range includes several well‑known labels, giving customers a chance to try a new flavour without breaking the budget.

The retailer has placed signage at point‑of‑sale and on in‑store radio channels to alert members to the limited‑time deal.

New wine ambassador adds context

Co‑op recently introduced a summer wine ambassador known as “The Wine Wally.” The role is filled by Liam D’Arcy, a social‑media creator with a sizable following on Instagram. D’Arcy’s duties include providing recommendations and handy tips for shoppers finding wines in the aisle.

In a statement, D’Arcy said, “Choosing a new wine can feel surprisingly daunting. With so many bottles, grape varieties and regions on the shelf, it’s easy to worry about picking something you won’t enjoy.” He added that most consumers tend to stay with familiar favourites, but promotions like Co‑op’s “give shoppers a chance to explore something new.”

His advice appears on in‑store displays and through the retailer’s audio announcements, aiming to make the buying experience feel less intimidating. D’Arcy also told reporters that retailers should provide “context and value around the wines on offer before they buy them.”

He continued, “Co‑op wants to make wine feel more accessible and more enjoyable for normal buyers going into the store. They’re one of the first to really do it, and to me that was really exciting. They are taking that first step.” He noted that the initiative “shows consumers that there are new ways to talk about wine and are bringing new voices into the conversation.”

While the offer is straightforward, the presence of a dedicated wine ambassador adds a layer of guidance that could influence purchasing decisions. For customers unfamiliar with wine terminology, having a clear, concise recommendation can reduce the hesitation that sometimes accompanies buying a bottle they have never tasted before.

Overall, the Co‑op discount on white wine is a modest but clear attempt to combine price incentive with educational support, aiming to make the experience of buying wine less opaque for everyday shoppers.

The deal ends soon.
